Floruna Life is the UK’s first UPF-free food shop, founded in 2025 by Harry Larkins. Every product is personally vetted and free from preservatives, additives, and seed oils, so home cooks can shop with confidence rather than compromise. This is the story of why it exists.

How a Childhood Shaped the UK's First UPF-Free Food Shop
Long before Floruna Life existed, food had already shaped Harry Larkins’ life in ways he couldn’t fully understand as a child. He suffered from allergies to artificial colours, e-numbers, and additives. These caused reactions that caused night terrors, breathing difficulties, and hyperactivity that nobody could explain.
The doctors dismissed it. They saw a child behaving differently and found no obvious cause. But his mum’s health visitor had seen this pattern before. She suggested removing these foods from his diet entirely.
The symptoms disappeared. He slept better. He was calmer. A change that felt small on paper had a profound effect on daily life.

Years later, a family trip to the zoo brought it all back. His sister was trying to find a snack for her children. Something simple, something she felt comfortable giving them. Every shelf offered the same thing: crisps, processed snacks, foods loaded with ingredients that had no reason to be there.
That moment stayed with him. He started looking more closely at the foods families and home cooks rely on every day. Everyday sauces, tinned staples, snacks, quick meal ingredients. The pattern was everywhere. Citric acid in chopped tomatoes. Thickeners in coconut milk. Emulsifiers in chocolate. Ingredients that simply didn’t need to be there.
He searched wholesalers for months. He discovered how rare genuinely additive-free products were, and how much time and patience it took to find them. The idea became clear: someone needed to do this work once, properly, so that every home cook didn’t have to.

How Every Product in Our UPF-Free Shop Is Selected
Every product goes through the same quiet checklist. If it passes, it earns a place on our shelves. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t matter how well-known the brand is.
We start with the ingredients list
Not the brand, not the packaging, the ingredients. We look for foods made with recognisable ingredients that feel at home in a real kitchen, without seed oils, unnecessary additives, or ultra-processing.
We focus on the product, not the brand
Many makers produce a mix of items and only a small number meet our standards. We select the specific products that stay within our rules and leave the rest. Every product is considered on its own terms.
We ask three questions
Would this make life easier for a home cook who wants clear information? Does it offer a straightforward choice in a confusing market? Would it fit comfortably into an ordinary kitchen without adding worry?
